SmartSign adopted an individual brand name strategy during its 15 years of growth. In <i><a href=\"https:\/\/books.google.co.in\/books?id=HxiL-2j51PMC&#038;pg=PA397&#038;lpg=PA397&#038;dq=separate+family+brand+name&#038;source=bl&#038;ots=e2Drg0vDTa&#038;sig=bypDvlfUY9n3cVDPPLXsM9lF3Io&#038;hl=en&#038;sa=X&#038;ei=HtzGUuq7OaipsQSG1oDQDQ&#038;sqi=2&#038;redir_esc=y#v=onepage&#038;q=separate%20family%20brand%20name&#038;f=false\">Marketing<\/a><\/i>, Richard L. Sandhusen describes this kind of strategy: \u201ca brand name is applied to each product in the line and the company name is de-emphasized. The advantages are that brands can be targeted to specific markets [and] failure of one brand doesn&#8217;t endanger others&#8221; (397). However, this strategy does sometimes sacrifice a strong company image.<\/p>\n<p>SmartSign is the parent company of more than forty smaller brands. The most well-known of these brands are <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"MySafetySign\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mysafetysign.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage noopener noreferrer\">MySafetySign<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.myassettag.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">MyAssetTag<\/a>,<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 189px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright zemanta-img\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.crunchbase.com\/organization\/smartsign-com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"zemanta-img-inserted zemanta-img-configured\" title=\"Image representing MySafetySign as depicted in...\" src=\"https:\/\/images.mysafetysign.com\/companies\/mysafetysign\/saf_MySafetySign-logo.png\" alt=\"brand identities \" width=\"179\" height=\"61\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">MySafetySign has a much more playful logo with images on red, green, orange, and blue backdrops.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.myparkingsign.com\/\">MyParkingSign<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mydoorsign.com\/\">MyDoorSign<\/a>. Much like Coca-Cola separates its sports drinks from its soda, SmartSign separates products based on relevancy. MySafetySign sells products related to safety, OSHA, construction, and fire safety; MyDoorSign sells braille door signs, &#8220;do not disturb&#8221; signs, &#8220;no smoking&#8221; signs, and office door signs. As mentioned by Sandhusen, the strategy allows for targeted marketing and sales. A consumer can search for \u201cparking signs\u201d and find the child brand with the clear brand name, MyParkingSign. This may not be as evident when coming across the parent name, SmartSign.<\/p>\n<p>SmartSign gave each brand its own name, color scheme, and design in order to clearly market the products. In addition to these visual representations, SmartSign also created an ideological platform for each brand. Branding encompasses all aspects of the product, including user experience. Companies use social media and blogs to create a voice to help consumers relate. SmartSign&#8217;s mission statement is \u201cSmarter Signs Save Lives\u201d and promotes the values of clarity, affordability, visibility, and durability. While all these values are desired in a product, they may not resonate with the consumer.<\/p>\n<p>This is where the blog\u2019s ideological platform is critical. The SmartSign blog promotes: safety, security, cycling, and educational resources.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 244px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft zemanta-img\"><a href=\"https:\/\/commons.wikimedia.org\/wiki\/File:Vfc-l.gif\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"zemanta-img-inserted zemanta-img-configured  \" title=\"English: VF Corporation Logo\" src=\"https:\/\/upload.wikimedia.org\/wikipedia\/commons\/f\/f1\/Vfc-l.gif\" alt=\"brand identities \" width=\"234\" height=\"158\" \/><\/a><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">VF Corporation is home to brands like 7 for all mankind, Ella Moss, Nautica, JanSport, The North Face, and Kipling. Many cannot identify VF though. (Image credit: Wikipedia)<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Some of the more niche topics, like educational resources, directly relate to SmartSign\u2019s products. School zone signs and SmartSign\u2019s popular #TakeNoBullies sticker campaign all fit into this ideology nicely.<\/p>\n<p>The marketing team at SmartSign is acutely aware of our different brand identities and our need to build up the overall company image. Many parent companies who take similar strategies are often less recognizable than their brands: <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Procter &amp; Gamble\" href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/companies\/procter-gamble\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"forbes noopener noreferrer\">Proctor and Gamble<\/a>, <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"VF Corporation\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vfc.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage noopener noreferrer\">VF Corporation<\/a>, and<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Bell Mobility\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bell.ca\/Mobility\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage noopener noreferrer\">Bell Mobility<\/a> are lesser known parent companies of popular brands <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"Pampers\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pampers.com\/en-us\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage noopener noreferrer\">Pampers<\/a>, <a class=\"zem_slink\" title=\"7 for all Mankind\" href=\"https:\/\/7forallmankind.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"homepage noopener noreferrer\">7 for All Mankind<\/a>, and Virgin Mobile.
