State Summary
Rhode Island requires red Exit signs. After the tragic night club fire in Warwick, Rhode Island passed legislation that revamps the state’s safety codes. Included in the legislation is a provision requiring floor proximity exit signs for all occupancies greater than 150. Buildings that meet the set criteria must have been in compliance by February 20, 2005. Floor proximity signs are to be considered in addition to standard Rhode Island Exit signs above exits and directing exit pathways, so it is best to know everything you will need to create a safe egress pathway that is vital in an emergency situation.
