Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Do your braille signs have raised characters?

A.
Yes. Our ADA-compliant braille signs feature tactile design along with Grade 2 Braille. All signs are available in a range of different designer colors to match your decor.

Q. Are your designer braille bathroom signs ADA-compliant?

A.

Yes, they are. We offer designer braille bathroom signs for men’s, women’s, and unisex bathrooms, and all of these comply with the ADA requirements. They feature Grade 2 Braille and flaunt aesthetically cut edges and border designs. These are available in 44 different colors, and you also have the option to choose your preferred border color from gold, silver, and copper.

Q. Are all ADA braille signs required to carry pictograms?

A.

Pictograms are optional on braille signs. When used, these must be at least 6" high, and the equivalent verbal description must be placed directly below the pictogram along with the accompanying Grade 2 Braille. You may refer to our ADA Quick Reference Guide for more information about creating and using compliant braille signs.

Q. When should photoluminescent braille signs be used?

A.

ADA-compliant photoluminescent braille signs are perfect to mark fire extinguishers, electric rooms, exits, and other such important areas in a building. These signs glow in the dark and ensure that they are readily visible during events like blackouts and temporary power cuts. Our photoluminescent signs use IPI materials that have MEA certification from the NYC Department Of Buildings. These signs comply with the California braille specifications.

Made with rigid, scratch-proof, chemical, and vandal-resistant plastic, these signs can be used both indoors and outdoors and can glow for up to 8 hours. We offer customizable options as well that allow you to add a logo, name, etc., at no extra cost!

Q. Is it possible to customize ADA braille signs?

A.

It certainly is! Our custom templates make it super easy for you to add your text or number to a braille sign. You may simply type your sign message in our customization wizard and we will convert your text or number to Grade 2 Braille. You may explore our custom braille signs in versatile, ADA-complaint designs in more than 16 different colors to match your building.

Q. Do ADA braille signs require a certain kind of font?

A.

As per the 2010 ADA Standards For Accessible Design, the characters on ADA signs, including braille signs, must be in upper case and use a sans serif or a simple serif font. The font can be no less than 5/8" high and no more than 2" high for room signs. The overhead signs require fonts that are at least 3" high.

Q. What are the installation options for braille signs?

A.

Our braille signs come with foam adhesive strips for quick and easy installation on walls or doors. Additional attachment options like magnetic strips, velcro, or screw holes are available at an additional cost.
