First Aid Signs

Although many symbols are used to represent first aid, the green background sign with a white cross is the first aid symbol registered under ISO. This same first aid cross sign symbol is used in ANSI signs for their Safety Instruction and Equipment Location Sign category. First aid signs with a red cross are also widely used in the US. However, very few people know that the Red cross is the logo of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.

First aid kits are often small boxes that are not instantly visible at first sight, especially in large facilities. Hence, first aid signs should be installed right over the first aid kit, first aid cabinet, first aid counter, first aid station, first aid room, or first aid booth in a facility. If directional signs are being used to mark the way towards first aid, they should be installed at the end of a passage so that people know which direction to go to. Choose a decent mounting height above the eye level to mount the first aid signs conspicuously and make sure any obstacle is not blocking the view. If anybody gets injured or needs first aid, the location of signs shouldn’t become a hindrance in the way of timely medical help.
