Standard: If used, the WALK ON LEFT FACING TRAFFIC sign shall be installed on the right-hand side of the road where pedestrians walk on the pavement or shoulder in the absence of pedestrian pathways or sidewalks.
Pedestrians are often careless and don't realize the safest way to walk is while facing traffic. A sign can be a safe and helpful reminder.
