Happy Labor Day!
Earlier International Labor Day was observed on May 1 in the honor of the lives lost in the Haymarket Affair in Chicago. But the United States chose the first Monday of September as a creation of labor movements. The day is dedicated to social and economic achievements of American workers. Labor Day first became a U.S. holiday in 1894 and it is a national tribute to the workers who have added to the strength, prosperity and well being of the country.
Labor Day witnesses several celebrations on the streets, such as parades, to display to public the strength of trade and labor unions. It is followed by a festival for recreation and amusement of the workers and their families.
According to U.S. Department of Labor, this year the United States enters Labor Day faced with many problems, and the most serious one concerns jobs. Due to recession and globalization, U.S. faces a long period of re-training and restructuring. The U.S. unemployment rate is 9.1 percent according to U.S. economic reports. The absolute size of job loss can be covered by creating 1, 00, 000 to 1, 25,000 new jobs per month to keep the unemployment rate from rising.
